The following message is from Mike Wilhite in the Latus Motors Service Department. Now that you’ve decided to enjoy riding in the fall and winter, here are some tips on how to maintain your Harley Davidson so you not only protect your investment but also keep yourself safe. Many folks get to the “end of the season” and leave maintenance issues for spring. If you plan to keep riding even periodically it’s very important that your bike is in good shape, tires are super important to ensure the best possible traction, make sure you have plenty of tread depth and the proper inflation. Clean oil and especially synthetic flows better in cool temps. To avoid condensation, keep your fuel tank full and warm up the engine good before heading out. Keep your battery on a tender when parked. Make sure all the lighting on the bike is working and this is when extra lighting or L.E.D. lighting can come in handy. Once you’re satisfied that your bike is ready to go make sure you’re ready as well, the proper gear is the difference between finishing the ride with a smile and feeling like a dog left out in the rain. Riding gear needs to keep you warm and dry. Heated clothing and or heated grips and seats are fantastic, you don’t need to bundle up like an Eskimo and when used with waterproof gear and a full face helmet you’re ready for just about anything! Next up, ride preparation! |
