In the air there’s a feeling of Christmas…….

It is hard to believe but that time of year is here again.  As Christmas seasons seem to roar past us faster and faster it is easy to take them for granted.  You may find yourself saying “I’ll do that next year” or “I’ll wait to call that old friend of mine” or “I’ll give thanks in the summer” but even with our best intentions it is hard to make up our digressions at a later date.

My favorite poem is titled Around the Corner by Charles Hanson Towne.  While it is absent of any hint of Christmas it does speak to the passing of time and friends and the difficulty we all share in “keeping up” with those we love. 

Now that this season has snuck up on us again we get another chance to reach out to others and with express to them what they mean to us. The most heart felt simple expression probably is the most meaningful, kind honest words go along way.  Sometimes we want to give a gift of appreciation to others, to show they are in our thoughts and prayers, thus the traditional Christmas gift giving season.

The fall season is settling in and our summer rides are becoming a fond memory.

For those riders who tend to park their bike in the fall and winter I would encourage you to look into purchasing some gear that stands up to the colder conditions and allow you to extend your personal riding season.

Some of the best riding moments can be when it is chilly out but you are warm and cozy rolling down a beautiful tree line road watching the colors of the season blur past you and smelling the sweet smell of Autumn in the crisp cool air.

Being warm and cozy when it’s cold out can be achieved by a number of methods. Layering in the first one; there are lots of great layering options in our motorclothes department right now. Some brands we carry, such as Gatorskins and Schampa offer light weight underpinnings that help keep you warm in very cold conditions. Using silk liners in your gloves is a nice and inexpensive way to keep your hands warm; silk is one of nature’s best insulating fibers.

To really dial in your winter riding you have to try some “heated gear”. These are Jackets, vests, pants and gloves that can hook up to your bike and can stay powered on while you ride. We are running a special here at Latus this winter, if you purchase any piece of ‘electric heated gear’ we will set up the plug in on your bike for zero cost to you. Heated gear truly extends your riding season to year-around riding. I encourage you to use a thermostat with your heated gear because it frankly can get too hot if just left in the “on position”. The thermostat allows you to dial up or down the comfort level you’ll need on a minute by minute basis.

Heated gear can be purchased now with battery powered elements, and from H-D, new dual-source heated gear; dual source being either hooked up to your bike or using a re-chargeable battery for power.

We have a ton of heated gear and are getting more as the temperatures drop so come in and ask about it in Motorclothes.

Wolverine makes all the H-D footwear and they are releasing a re-chargeable heated boot this fall. Stay tuned for more information about these amazing boots; they just may replace your slippers as your favorite footwear!

Warm and comfortable riders are more alert and aware plus their reaction time is much quicker then cold and stiff riders, so stay warm, stay safe , and extend your riding season for new adventures in the Great Northwest this fall and winter.
